For senators, seeing their emperor run half-naked on the sands of the amphitheater to play wrestling was disgusting, and Commodus' madness was not limited to the Colosseum, but he renamed Rome Colonia Commodiana, meaning the colony of Commodus, and changed the names of its famous places to reflect the many titles He granted himself, as he proclaimed an incarnation of the god Hercules and forced the Senate to recognize his divinity, and statues of the emperor portrayed as a mythical hero were made all over the country.

He also ordered the removal of Emperor Nero's head from one of his giant statues and his head in its place, and by 192 the Roman people had seen enough of his emperor, and the city descended into bankruptcy and chaos and crimes spread, so a small group of conspirators decided to assassinate him, including his lover Marcia.
